Multistakeholder Approaches to Fragility, Conflict and Violence in the Extractives Sector in the DRC
Register here to attend this session co-organised by DCAF and the ICRC on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 2:00-3:30 pm
Session Description:
DCAF and the ICRC are working together to promote responsible business conduct in complex environments. Innovative engagement strategies are being implemented in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that go beyond the ‘usual suspects’ to engage a diverse array of stakeholders including community representatives, security providers and business actors. Within the broader framework of international initiatives such as the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, and the OECD Due Diligence Guidance on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, locally-driven multistakeholder groups are seeking to respond to significant security, development and human rights challenges around extractives operations.
This session will focus on lessons and insights from the ongoing work in the DRC. Using concrete examples, it will assess how international multistakeholder initiatives that include the private sector as active partners can support prevention-based approaches to security and human rights challenges on the ground.
